Operation of the power grid requires utilities to support a large installed base of hardware and software from multiple vendors. As new Smart Devices and Smart Applications emerge, they must perform effectively and be integrated into your existing systems. Functional Testing will verify the basic functionality of a new product and capture the results for inclusion in a test report. Interoperability Testing is aimed at identifying and correcting behavior that would prevent your new and old systems from operating together as expected and without harmful interference.


Ray Hayes

 


 

Raymond M. Hayes, P.E. operates RMHayes, LLC, a consulting service addressing Smart Grid Technology for utilities, developers, and government agencies. After 32 years in the R&D group with American Electric Power, Hayes retired in December, 2010 as Manager of Advanced Technology Testing at AEP’s Dolan Technology Center. In that position Hayes established AEP’s GridSmartTM Test Beds to address functional and interoperability testing needs for new smart grid technology before deployment on the power grid and established the ARRA Demonstration Grant Inter-operability Test Plan.

 

Hayes has a BSME from Brooklyn Polytech and an MS in Engineering Management from Ohio University. Hayes lives in the woods of central Ohio, on the big toe of Hocking Hills region.
